The aim of this graduate essay is to elucidate and compare the approach to learning that emerges in texts about the two educational practices Montessori and Reggio Emilia.The guiding research questions in this study are:What do Montessori and Reggio Emilia that learning is about?The mean Montessori and Reggio Emilia that learning goes to?How do you describe the Montessori and Reggio Emilia justification why it is important to learn? Through a poststructural theoretical framework and text analysis the study focused on what has been written about learning in the traditions of Montessori and Reggio Emilia.The results of the study indicate that both Montessori and Reggio Emilia look at the child in a similar way in which the child have the desire to explore and learn. Both pedagogy traditions think that the child will develop into independent people who can change society in the future for the better and with a democratic basis.The study also reveals how the Swedish curriculum (Skolverket, 98/10) is inspired both by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori traditions through describing how preschool should stimulate and challenge the child's development and learning, utilize and strengthen the interests of children to learn to conquer new experiences, knowledge and skills..

The aim of this study is to examine what preschool teachers within Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood education express as important regarding the physical indoor environment in preschools. The study is implemented with a qualitative method and is based on four interviews with preschool teachers that have been involved in a course on Reggio Emilia. The interviews were complemented with four observations on the departments where the preschool teachers work. A second aim of this study is to examine how the relationship between the teachers statements correlate with the environment they have created at their preschool. The collected material was gathered and then categorized.

The purpose of the study was to determine the attitudes of the teachers of Reggio Emilia inspired preschools concerning the science work with children between the ages of one and three, as well as their opinions on how the physical preschool environment and the choice of materials influence their scientific work. The study was conducted in three departments of two different kindergartens. Although both kindergartens called themselves Reggio Emilia inspired, their working methods and their environments differed largely. None of them were originally built as Reggio Emilia inspired preschools. One of the kindergartens strived to design their indoor environment the same way as the preschools of Reggio Emilia are constructed, there for they were setting up different stations where the children themselves have the opportunity to explore various scientific areas.

Vi är intresserade av genus i förskolan för att vi anser att det är ett relevant ämne för barn och pedagoger. Pojkar och flickor väljer olika leksaker att leka med på förskolor. Vår studie behandlar två förskolor där vi har tittat på pojkars och flickors leksaker samt på miljöns uppbyggnad för att se om det förekommer skillnader mellan en Reggio Emilia och icke Reggio Emilia inspirerad förskola. I vår studie har vi använt oss av en kvalitativ undersökning där vi har observerat sex avdelningar och intervjuat två pedagoger. Resultatet av studien visar att pojkarna på båda förskolorna var i byggrummet eller i lekhallen medan flickorna var i dockrummet.

The shape and arrangement of the outdoor environment at a preschool has a critical impact on the possibilities to practice different pedagogic activities (Grahn et al.1997). Syftet var att fördjupa mig i den pedagogiska filosofin som ligger bakom arbetssättet i Reggio Emilias förskoleverksamhet samt att försöka ta reda på om man har lyckats att i den svenska grundskolan arbeta utifrån Reggio Emilias pedagogiska filosofi och förhållningssätt. Reggio Emilia ser barnet som aktivt och kompetent. Jag gjorde en empirisk studie, med observation och intervjuer, på en Reggio Emilia-inspirerad friskola. Genom arbetet kom jag fram till att det inte finns några direkta motsättningar att inom grundskolan försöka arbeta utifrån Reggio Emilias pedagogiska filosofi. Background: The request for the Reggio Emilia practice has expanded enormously the last couple of years within the Swedish preschools. This particular practice describes the environment as a third educator. This third educator is supposed to work as - not only a tool - but also a support to ease children's learning experiences and help develop their mind. Previous research has shown that design of, for instance, furniture has a way of affecting the children's learning process and development.Aims: The purpose of this study is to see how two different teams of preschool educators on two differed Reggio Emilia inspired preschools work and handle the physical indoor environment. Method: We started out by contacting Reggio Emilia inspired preschools.
